Hey, I’m Marike van der Merwe—the face  and heart behind Van der Merwe Media! My photography journey began in 2012, but before going full-time, I spent five years shaping young minds as a teacher. Little did I know, wrangling a classroom full of kids was the perfect training ground for capturing real, unscripted family moments—because let’s be honest, kids (and let’s not forget dads) rarely follow posing instructions.

Now, as a full-time photographer, I specialize in natural light and outdoor sessions, embracing the chaos, giggles, and all the wonderfully unfiltered moments that make family photography so special. With my teaching background and my undeniable proficiency in awkward (seriously, I will trip at least once during your session), I create a relaxed and fun environment where everyone feels at ease.
